Birgittasystrarnas kloster, Djursholm, Catholic monastery in Djursholm, Sweden.
Birgittasystrarnas kloster is a three-story residence with surrounding gardens and water views across Stora Vaertan. The building features two distinct roof gables that face Burevaegen street and serve as its most recognizable characteristic.
This monastery was established in 1923, marking the return of the Birgittine order to Sweden after three centuries of absence. Elisabeth Hesselblad's reformed branch of the order made this reestablishment possible.
The Birgittine sisters have created a place of quiet spiritual reflection that remains active today. Visitors can experience how the community maintains its contemplative practices within the Swedish religious landscape.
The monastery welcomes both individuals and groups for spiritual retreats and contemplative programs throughout the year. It is located in Danderyd Municipality, with access from Burevaegen street for straightforward navigation.
The building was originally registered as a rest home rather than a monastery because Swedish law prohibited new monastery establishments until 1977. This clever administrative solution allowed the community to function from the very beginning.
