Brana, Mountain summit in Kamnik-Savinja Alps, Slovenia
Brana is a limestone peak in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps reaching 2,259 meters above sea level in northern Slovenia. The summit forms a natural divide between the Logarska Dolina and Kamniška Pristrica valleys.
The first recorded ascent took place in 1875 when mountaineers Anton Bauer and J. Seidl climbed the eastern route to reach the limestone peak. This early climb marked the start of modern exploration of the mountain by organized alpinists.
The peak is central to local mountain culture, with traditional Alpine lodges scattered along the approach routes welcoming visitors year-round. These simple shelters serve regional food specialties that reflect the daily life of mountain communities.
Two main starting points offer different routes to reach the summit: the Frischauf Lodge at Okrešelj and the Kamnik Saddle Lodge, each with varying difficulty levels. The climb demands moderate fitness and familiarity with mountain terrain, using well-marked trails that vary with the seasons.
The northern face drops steeply into Logarska Valley while the southern side slopes gently toward the Kamniška Bistrica river. These contrasting sides create very different visual experiences depending on which approach route a climber chooses.
