Debela peč, Mountain summit in Julian Alps, Slovenia
Debela peč is a limestone peak in the Julian Alps standing at 2014 meters with distinctive steep northern cliffs. The southern slopes descend more gradually and fall within Triglav National Park.
This peak marks the easternmost 2000-meter summit in the Julian Alps and has served as a natural boundary between Alpine regions since medieval times. Its strategic position made it an important landmark for travelers and trade routes historically.
Local mountaineers frequent this peak year-round, following traditional Slovenian hiking customs by recording their ascents in the summit register.
Three marked trails climb from Pokljuka plateau to the summit, with the Medvedova konta route providing the most direct path through forest and meadow. The trails are well-signposted and suit hikers with moderate experience and solid endurance.
The north face provides technically demanding climbing routes for experienced alpinists. In winter, the southern meadows become excellent ski touring terrain with varied descent options.
