Fish Footbridge, Pedestrian bridge in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The Fish Footbridge is a pedestrian crossing over the Ljubljanica River between the Fishmarket Square and the Gerber stairway at Congress Square. It features transparent glass panels and LED lighting that allow clear views of the surrounding bridges and riverbanks.
Initial plans for this crossing point originated in 1895 from architect Max Fabiani. The current structure was completed in 2014, replacing earlier concepts with a modern design.
The footbridge joins the Fishmarket Square with the Congress Square area, reflecting the urban vision of architect Jože Plečnik. You can observe how pedestrians flow between the market zone and the city center, bringing these two river sides into daily connection.
The crossing offers a direct route for pedestrians of all ages between the marketplace and the city center. During wet weather, the glass panels can become slippery, so take care when crossing.
The bridge was built with a minimalist design using glass panels to provide unobstructed views of the surrounding area. This makes it a popular spot for photography of architecture and river views throughout the year.
