Komárno, River port town in southwestern Slovakia
Located at the meeting point of three rivers - the Danube, Vah, and Nitra - Komárno stands as a strategic settlement on Slovakia's southern border.
The Treaty of Trianon in 1920 split the original city into two parts, with the northern section becoming Komárno in Czechoslovakia and the southern part remaining Komárom in Hungary.
The population of Komárno reflects a strong Hungarian influence, with Hungarian speakers representing more than half of the local residents according to recent statistics.
The town functions as Slovakia's primary port on the Danube River, managing substantial coal and oil trade operations between central and southeastern European regions.
Two bridges connect Komárno with its Hungarian counterpart Komárom across the Danube, including an iron bridge and a modern lifting bridge.
