Little Carpathians Protected Landscape Area, Nature reserve in Trnava District, Slovakia.
The Little Carpathians Protected Landscape Area spans 646 square kilometers of mountain terrain, connecting the Carpathians with the Northern Lower Austria Alps.
Established in 1976, this protected area evolved from six separate nature reserves, including the Roštún National Nature Reserve formed in 1953.
The reserve contains numerous medieval structures, including Bratislava Castle from the 9th century, which now houses the Slovak National Museum.
Visitors access the area through marked hiking trails, including the E8 European long-distance path that traverses multiple mountain summits.
The reserve supports 700 butterfly species and maintains Slovakia's largest population of saker falcons within its diverse ecosystem.
