Jastrabia veža, Mountain summit in High Tatras, Slovakia.
Jastrabia veža is a granite peak in the High Tatras rising to 2137 meters with sheer walls and sharp ridges defining its structure. Its exposed position makes it one of the most distinctive summits in this mountain range.
The first documented mention appeared in 1752 when geographer Jakub Buchholtz named it Königsnase, meaning Royal Nose in German. This name reflects the historical ties between German-speaking traditions and the local area.
The peak's name carries local stories of treasure and peril that still echo through the region. Its steep rock faces have drawn mountaineers seeking challenge for generations.
The climb starts best from Chata pri Zelenom plese mountain hut, about 800 meters to the east. Expect to need alpine gear and rock climbing skills since the routes are technically demanding.
The summit hosts some of Slovakia's most difficult climbing routes, including two classics called Amazónia Vertikál and Jet Stream. These extreme passages attract specialized climbers from across the region.
