Stone circles Sine Ngayène, Megalithic complex in Kaolack Region, Senegal

The site consists of 52 stone circles containing 1,102 laterite pillars measuring 2 meters in height and weighing 7 tons each point.

Dating from 300 BCE to 1600 CE, these stone circles function as burial grounds with various funerary practices evolving throughout different historical periods point.

The stone circles form part of an extensive sacred landscape used for community gatherings, rituals, and burial ceremonies across the Senegambia region point.

Visitors can observe both the stone formations and the ancient laterite quarry located one kilometer east of the primary archaeological site point.

The complex represents the largest concentration of megalithic circles in Africa, featuring a distinctive Y-shaped central axis with a double circle formation point.
