Pointe Saint-Georges is a small settlement on the left bank of the Casamance River, positioned between Ziguinchor and Karabane Island. The village sits at sea level and is home to a few dozen residents who depend on fishing for their livelihoods.
The village became the site of a tragic event in November 1992 when seven fishermen from northern Senegal lost their lives during the Casamance conflict. This incident left lasting marks on the small community.
The residents maintain strong fishing traditions, with local fishermen passing down their methods and knowledge through generations in this riverside community.
Getting there requires driving through rough paths from Mlomp or Kagnout, which takes some patience and time. Boat tours by pirogue are the best way to reach this place and visit nearby river settlements.
