Praia Picão

Praia Picão is a beach on the Atlantic coast with soft sand and turquoise water. The shoreline is bordered by coconut palms and thick vegetation that comes right down to the sand.

This beach lies on islands first reached by Portuguese explorers in the 15th century. The coastline has been a landing point and trading area since the earliest days of European contact.

Local fishermen maintain traditional fishing methods at Praia Picão, using wooden canoes and nets to gather fresh catches each morning.

Getting there takes about half an hour by car from the main town. The best time to visit is during the drier months when the weather is more stable.

The clear water reveals colorful fish and coral formations that thrive in these island waters. Snorkeling here shows the rich marine life that makes the shallow coastal areas special.
