Jardín Botánico

The Botanical Garden in Trindade brings together plant species from the islands organized by type for research and education purposes. The grounds display tropical, medicinal, and ornamental varieties that grow naturally across São Tomé and Príncipe.

The site was established as a research center to protect and study the diverse plant life found across both islands. This founding helped preserve biological knowledge specific to the region.

The garden reveals how local plants matter in traditional remedies and cooking through what visitors observe while walking the grounds. The setting helps explain how island residents rely on these plants in their daily lives.

The garden is mainly open to visitors on weekday mornings and has marked paths for exploring the collections. Sturdy shoes are wise since the paths can become slippery when damp.

The grounds hold special zones for endangered plant species found nowhere else but on the islands in the Gulf of Guinea. These rare plants exist in very few places around the world, making a visit botanically significant.
