Al-Otrush Mosque, Historic mosque in Al-A'jam district, Aleppo, Syria.
Al-Otrush Mosque is a religious structure in Aleppo's Al-A'jam district featuring a stone octagonal minaret positioned to the left of its main entrance with detailed decorative patterns across its facade. The building displays carved stone elements and traditional Islamic geometric designs above its doorway.
The building was commissioned by Mamluk ruler Aqbogha al-Otrush in 1398 and completed by his successor Demirdash al-Nasiri. Its original architectural design from this period remains visible in its current form.
The mosque maintains active prayer services while providing educational sessions about Islamic teachings and religious practices to the local community.
The site is located near other historical buildings such as Al-Sultaniyah Madrasa, making it possible to visit multiple structures in a single visit. The surrounding area allows visitors to explore different examples of Mamluk architecture.
The building underwent structural restoration work in 1922 that protected its original elements and preserved the traditional carved details above its entrance. This work allowed it to maintain its appearance from centuries ago.
