Al-Sultaniyah Madrasa

Al-Sultaniyah is a madrasa and mausoleum positioned along the eastern side of Aleppo's Citadel, combining classrooms, prayer halls, and burial chambers within a single complex. The building displays medieval Islamic architecture with stone walls, arched passageways, and geometric ornaments across its facades and courtyards.

This complex was built in 1223 during the Ayyubid dynasty and holds the tomb of Sultan Malik al-Zaher, the son of Sultan Saladin. It was established as an important educational center in one of the medieval Near East's most influential cities.

The madrasa served as a meeting place for scholars and students from distant regions who came to study religious and secular subjects together. It shaped the intellectual life of Aleppo for generations.
