Ko Chang, Administrative district in eastern Trat Province, Thailand
Ko Chang is an administrative district in eastern Trat Province consisting of an archipelago with more than 50 islands. The main island of the same name is the largest in the district and serves as the hub for most visitors arriving by ferry.
The district was established in 1994 when it separated from a larger administrative area and received full recognition in 2007. This change reflected regional administrative reorganization efforts in Trat Province.
The islands are home to fishing communities where people continue their traditional ways of life while adapting to tourism. You can observe how locals balance their heritage with the changes that come with visitors and modern development.
Visitors reach the district by ferry from mainland Trat, with regular departures available throughout the day from multiple terminals. Travel is more reliable during the dry season when weather conditions are more stable.
A large portion of the island group is protected as a national park, which has preserved much of the region's natural environment. Visitors can explore relatively undeveloped coastlines and forests that are increasingly rare in Southeast Asia.
