Vang Tao Incident, Border military incident site at Vang Tao, Thailand.

Vang Tao is a border crossing point between Thailand and Laos where an armed attack on a Laotian customs post occurred in 2000. The location remains an active checkpoint today, situated in a remote frontier area between the two nations.

On July 3, 2000, armed insurgents attacked the customs post, triggering a confrontation in which six raiders were killed. Thai authorities arrested 27 individuals after the incident, including 11 Thai nationals.

The incident occurred during a period of regional tensions, coinciding with the visit of Prince Sauryavong Savang and Crown Prince Soulivong Savang to the United States.

The area is a remote frontier region that is difficult to access and subject to increased security measures. Visitors should expect that access may be restricted and should consider local conditions carefully.

The attack was connected to a series of bombings in Vientiane that may have indicated broader resistance movements across the region. This connection reveals the complex political landscape that shaped border areas at that time.
