Ras R'mal, Protected wetland and cape in Djerba, Tunisia

The sand peninsula of Ras R'mal extends over 1,856 hectares, connecting to Djerba's coastline through a sandbar that submerges during high tides.

In 2007, Ras R'mal received international recognition through its designation as a Ramsar site, marking its significance for wetland conservation in Tunisia.

The area includes the remnants of a 16th-century coastal mosque named Sidi Hachani, which served as a place of worship before marine erosion damaged it.

Visitors can reach Ras R'mal through daily excursions departing from Houmt Souk fishing port, with up to 3,000 people visiting during peak season.

The Bhar Mayet lagoon within Ras R'mal functions as a critical nesting site for migrating birds traveling between Northern Europe and Southern Africa.
