Arch of Trajan, Triumphal arch in Maktar, Tunisia.

The Arch of Trajan is a Roman monument in Maktar featuring a central passage and carefully cut stone blocks arranged in layers. The structure displays classical Roman construction methods with stone elements and carved details that reflect the craftsmanship of that era.

The arch was built during Emperor Trajan's reign in the second century and marks Roman presence in North Africa. It shows how Rome used monumental construction to demonstrate control over conquered territories.

The inscriptions carved into the stone tell stories of Roman military campaigns and imperial authority. Visitors walking around it can see these messages firsthand and observe how Romans used the monument to communicate their power.

The site sits along the road between Tunis and Maktar, with signs guiding visitors to the location. Wear comfortable shoes since the ground is uneven, and bring sun protection as this region gets strong direct sunlight.

The stones of the arch carry hidden markings that reveal how Roman architects used mathematical calculations to ensure structural stability. These marks are still visible today and tell much about the engineering techniques of the period.
