Kastamonu, Provincial capital in northern Turkey

The city of Kastamonu stands at 904 meters elevation in a high basin south of the Black Sea, near the Gök River valley.

The Byzantine fortress town transformed into a Muslim principality in the 12th century before becoming part of the Ottoman Empire in 1393.

The covered bazaar from the 16th century continues as a center for regional copper crafts and traditional market activities.

The province contains 20 districts and maintains highway connections to major Turkish cities, with an airport serving regional transportation needs.

In 1925, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk initiated the national dress code reform in Kastamonu, marking a significant modernization milestone for Turkey.
