İnceburun Lighthouse, Coastal lighthouse in Sinop Province, Turkey
İnceburun Lighthouse is a white stone structure with an octagonal tower rising 12 meters above a square base, visible from far across the Black Sea. The complex includes several supporting buildings arranged around the main tower on volcanic bedrock.
The lighthouse was built in 1863 at the northernmost point of Anatolia, a crucial location for maritime navigation. Its construction during this period represented the expansion of coastal navigation infrastructure along the Turkish Black Sea shoreline.
The name İnceburun means "narrow point" and reflects the geography of this headland jutting into the sea. Visitors encounter the lived-in character of a working lighthouse station where families have made their home for generations.
Access to the site is somewhat limited since it sits on a rocky headland exposed to the elements, so expect uneven ground and windy conditions. Wear sturdy shoes and check weather conditions before visiting, as Black Sea weather can change quickly.
The ground beneath the lighthouse consists of volcanic rock formed during the Cretaceous Period over 100 million years ago. This geological foundation connects the site to the ancient tectonic history of the Black Sea region.
