Sinop Castle

The castle extends over 2,000 meters along the Black Sea coast with eight defensive bastions reaching heights of 25 meters and widths of 8 meters.

The fortress originated in the 8th century BC when settlers from Miletus constructed the initial fortifications, which the Genoese later expanded during the 14th century.

The castle formed a central point in Mediterranean-Black Sea trade routes, where merchants exchanged fabrics, copper, glass, grain, and precious stones between Europe and Asia.

The fortress contains multiple observation towers that provide views across the Black Sea and the city of Sinop from different vantage points.

The structure features archer windows throughout its stone walls, demonstrating advanced military engineering that enabled defenders to maintain surveillance while staying protected.
