Amisos Hill

Amisos Hill is an ancient burial mound in Atakum containing two chambers carved directly into conglomerate rock. The rooms feature painted walls with decorative architectural details that have survived through the centuries.

The mound developed as a burial place for wealthy families during the Hellenistic period in the ancient Pontus region. Systematic digging in the early 2000s uncovered the chambers and revealed their decorated state.

The name comes from an ancient city that once thrived in this region. Today, visitors can see how prominent families honored their dead through elaborate burial chambers and decorated spaces.

A gondola from Batıpark provides convenient access to the hilltop where the site is located. Take time to walk through both chambers carefully to observe the painted details and room layouts.

The southern chamber still shows painted walls with dark blue lines and yellow recesses that have lasted thousands of years. These colored markings helped researchers understand how the burial space was originally arranged and used.
