Alexandria Troas, Archaeological site in Çanakkale Province, Turkey.
Alexandria Troas is an ancient ruined city in Çanakkale Province featuring scattered remains spread across a broad area. Visitors can see the remnants of bathing complexes, a theater, fortified walls with towers, harbor structures, and an ancient stadium.
The city was founded around 310 BCE and grew into a major port settlement under successive rulers. It served as a significant hub for trade and military control until it was eventually abandoned and left to decay.
This was a thriving port city where merchants and sailors from distant lands mingled, leaving behind a mix of religious and architectural traditions. Temples, markets, and public spaces reflected the everyday interactions of people from different backgrounds.
The site is open to explore independently but requires sturdy footwear and offers little shade in most areas. Access is easiest from the nearby town of Ezine, which serves as the main entry point.
The remains include two ancient harbor basins that reveal how essential sea trade was to the city's survival. These structures give visitors a direct sense of how the settlement connected to the broader Mediterranean world.
