Hacettepe University, Research university in Ankara, Turkey
Hacettepe University is a research university in Ankara with two main campuses: a medical center in the old town and the Beytepe Campus set on a large campus grounds. The institution houses over 300 research laboratories and conducts more than 1,000 active research projects.
The institution began in 1958 as an Institute for Child Health and received university status through Parliament Act No. 892 in 1967. This founding reflected Turkey's commitment to developing high-quality medical and scientific education in the capital.
The university emblem shows a stag representing a Hittite deity discovered in royal tombs at Alacahöyük, designed by Dr. Yücel Tanyeri. This symbol connects the institution with the ancient history of the region and is seen daily across the academic community.
The campus offers visitors various routes to explore, and the medical facility in the old town is easily reached by public transport. It is wise to check in advance which areas are open to the public, as some laboratories and research areas have restricted access.
The institution operates a broad network of thirteen faculties, eight vocational schools, a conservatory, and more than forty research centers. This diversity makes it one of the country's largest multidisciplinary institutions.
