Ankara University Observatory

Ankara University Observatory is a research facility located at 1,256 meters elevation, equipped with nine optical telescopes and a radio telescope for astronomical observation. The site houses instruments dedicated to studying celestial objects and gathering scientific data about the sky.

The observatory was founded in 1963 after Dutch astrophysicist Egbert Adriaan Kreiken selected this site for its favorable geographic conditions. This establishment created an important observation station for astronomy in the region.

The facility maintains monthly observation sessions from March through October where visitors learn about celestial objects through professional guidance.

Visitors can take advantage of observation sessions led by specialists to learn about celestial objects, especially when skies are clear. The mountain location provides favorable conditions for stargazing throughout the year.

The location experiences around 300 clear nights each year, which makes regular observations possible throughout the seasons. These favorable conditions allow researchers to study the sky on a consistent basis.
