Atakule, Television and observation tower in Çankaya district, Turkey.
Atakule is a 125-meter-high steel structure in Çankaya featuring an observation deck, dining spaces, and shopping areas at its base. The building combines leisure and commercial functions in one central location.
Construction started in 1987 under architect Ragıp Buluç and finished in 1989, with President Turgut Özal inaugurating the site. The tower emerged during a period when modern structures were reshaping the city's skyline.
The name draws from Turkish words 'ata' for Atatürk and 'kule' for tower. It has become a popular place where locals and visitors gather to see Ankara from above.
The site has multiple dining and refreshment areas at different levels, some with rotating features for city views. Visitors should plan enough time to explore the areas and enjoy the surroundings.
The Sevilla restaurant on the observation level rotates gradually and completes one full turn per hour. Diners can enjoy their meal while the city view shifts around them continuously.
