Güvenpark, Urban park in Kızılay, Turkey
Güvenpark is a public park in the heart of Kızılay, Ankara, surrounded by major roads and featuring mature trees, seating areas, water features, and a children's play zone. At the center stands a large bronze relief monument that gives the park its name and its most recognizable feature.
The park was laid out in the 1930s as part of a broader urban plan drawn up in 1929 to give the new Turkish capital a modern city structure with green spaces. The central monument was added in 1935, during the period when Ankara was being built into a functioning capital city.
The monument at the center of the park shows bronze figures of craftspeople, artists, and security forces, all made by Austrian sculptors. The figures give a sense of which groups Turkish society chose to celebrate when the republic was still young.
The park is right in the center of Kızılay, a few minutes' walk from nearby metro stations and bus stops, making it easy to reach from most parts of the city. It has several entrances along the surrounding roads, so you can step in from whatever side you are approaching from.
The bronze relief at the center of the park runs about 37 meters long, making it one of the largest works of its kind in Turkey. It was made by Austrian sculptors, which shows how often the young Turkish republic turned to foreign artists when shaping the look of its new capital.
