Sheraton Ankara, Skyscraper hotel in Kavaklıdere, Turkey.
Sheraton Ankara is a 29-story hotel tower standing 143 meters (470 feet) tall in the Kavaklıdere district of the Turkish capital. The building offers modern rooms with wide views across the city and connects directly to the adjacent Karum shopping center through an internal walkway.
The building was designed in 1991 by the German architecture firm Gerkan, Marg and Partners with inspiration from a wine bottle's shape. This distinctive form made it a recognizable landmark when it was first completed.
The building stands in the heart of Ankara's modern business zone, where locals and visitors move between offices, shops, and dining spaces throughout the day. This location made it a symbol of the city's transformation into a contemporary hub for commerce and government work.
The direct passage to the nearby Karum shopping center makes it easy to reach shops and restaurants during a stay. The central location in the business district means that major destinations across the city are accessible on foot or via short trips.
The building held the title of Ankara's tallest structure from 1991 until 2009, when other high-rises were eventually constructed. This 18-year dominance made it an identifying feature of the city's skyline for almost two decades.
