Achilleion

Achilleion is an archaeological site in the Troad region featuring ruins scattered across a hillside with stone walls and defensive structures from different historical periods. The remains come from multiple settlement phases that left their architectural marks layered one upon another.

The settlement began in the Bronze Age and became an important location during the Hellenistic period in the Troad region. Across thousands of years, the place experienced different phases of habitation, prosperity, and eventually abandonment.

The site bears traces of multiple communities that settled here over centuries, each leaving behind their own building styles and craft traditions. These layers reveal how different peoples inhabited and shaped the same place at different times.

Sturdy footwear is essential because the ground is uneven with several steep slopes that make navigation challenging in some areas. It helps to bring plenty of time so you can explore the different sections at your own pace and take in the views.

Excavations have uncovered metalworking workshops where ancient craftspeople produced tools and other goods for local use and trade. These discoveries show that the place was not just a settlement but also a manufacturing hub for the surrounding area.
