Eyüp Gondola, Aerial tramway in Merkez Mahallesi, Turkey.
The Eyüp Gondola links the Golden Horn waterfront with Piyerloti Hill using a cable system spanning roughly 420 meters. Enclosed cabins carrying up to eight passengers complete the journey in under three minutes.
The system began operating in 2005, providing direct access to the hilltop location above. The site takes its name from French writer Pierre Loti, who spent time in the city and wrote about Istanbul.
The cable car brings visitors to a hilltop where Ottoman buildings and traditional cafes sit among locals and travelers exploring the views. The location holds significance as a sacred site in the religious district of Eyüp where people gather to experience the local character.
The cable car operates daily throughout the morning and into the evening, accepting Istanbulkart payment cards. Arriving at the hilltop is straightforward with a journey taking only a few minutes.
The cabins use an Italian mono-cable fixed grip system with automatic safety features designed for windy conditions. The installation was engineered specifically to operate safely even when weather becomes challenging.
