Istanbul Postal Museum, Postal museum in Sirkeci, Turkey
The Istanbul Postal Museum is housed in a four-story building and displays postal equipment, telecommunication devices, and stamp collections throughout its spaces. The exhibits are organized across multiple sections dedicated to different aspects of postal history.
The building was completed in 1909 during the Ottoman Empire and originally served as the Ministry of Post and Telegraph. It was designed by architect Vedat Tek during a period when communication technology was rapidly changing.
The museum displays postal uniforms and mail bags from different eras, showing how people in Turkey communicated and sent messages across generations. These objects tell the story of workers who carried letters and information through the city.
The museum is located on Yeni Postane Street at number 25 and is open to visitors on weekdays. Admission is free and no advance booking is required.
The museum preserves an original telegraph room from World War I with its equipment still in place. This space allows visitors to see how messages were sent during the occupation period of Istanbul.
