Nimara Cave, Neolithic cave on Paradise Island near Marmaris, Turkey.
Nimara Cave is a prehistoric cave on Paradise Island near Marmaris that contains multiple chambers with natural formations. The cave system features stalactites and mineral deposits that create patterns across the underground landscape.
Archaeological excavations in 2007 revealed human remains spanning 12,000 years along with stone artifacts from different periods. These findings show that people inhabited and used this location over an extremely long span of time.
In Roman times, the site functioned as a temple where visitors left terracotta figures and coins as offerings. These objects reveal how people expressed their devotion and the spiritual importance this underground space held for them.
The cave is reached through an approximately 400-meter path from the park entrance, with informative signs marking the designated trail. The route is straightforward to follow and clearly marked for visitors.
Colored glass beads discovered during excavations indicate the site functioned as a specialized bead workshop until the Bronze Age. This crafting activity reveals an unexpected specialization in this underground space.
