Kocain Cave, Natural monument cave in Ahırtaş village, Turkey
Kocain Cave is an underground cavern in Antalya Province stretching 633 meters with two large chambers where the main gallery reaches heights of about 80 meters. The entrance area spans 75 meters wide and 20 meters high, creating an imposing gateway to the interior.
Scientists from Ankara University began the first systematic study of the cave in 1946. French researchers joined the effort in 1972 for the first speleological exploration, marking the beginning of scientific documentation.
Inscriptions from early Christian and Byzantine times visible on the walls reveal how people once used the cave for religious purposes. Visitors walking through can sense the spiritual role this place held in the past.
