Mount Güllük-Termessos National Park, National park in Antalya Province, Turkey.
Mount Güllük-Termessos National Park sits in the Taurus Mountains and spreads across terrain with steep cliffs, dense forests, and Mediterranean plants. The land shows the remains of the ancient city of Termessos with various structures from classical times.
Termessos was a Pisidian city that successfully resisted invasion attempts by Alexander the Great in 333 BCE. Its location in the mountains gave the city a natural defensive position that proved crucial to its survival and independence.
The archaeological remains show Roman and Hellenistic buildings like a theater and tombs with ornate decorations that reveal the cultural wealth of ancient inhabitants. Walking through these ruins today, you can directly see the craftsmanship and artistic skill of the time.
The park lies about 34 kilometers northwest of Antalya and is reachable by car, with parking and visitor facilities at the entrance. Sturdy shoes are recommended since walking paths are uneven and run through rocky areas.
The Mecine Canyon inside the park impresses with vertical rock walls about 600 meters high, where golden eagles nest and wild mountain goats roam between the rocks. This geological formation creates a dramatic habitat for specialized wildlife.
