Konyaaltı Plajı, Public beach in Muratpaşa, Turkey
Konyaaltı Plajı is a public beach on the Mediterranean coast in Muratpaşa, Antalya, running along a shoreline of mixed pebbles and coarse sand for several kilometers. The Beydağları Mountains rise behind the city and form a clear backdrop visible from the water's edge.
The area was originally a natural and largely undeveloped coastal strip on the edge of Antalya. It was turned into an organized recreational zone during the 1980s, as the city grew into a major tourism hub.
The beach is a regular meeting point for local families, especially on summer evenings when people come to walk along the promenade and swim together. On weekends, the shore fills with groups of all ages, giving it the feel of a neighborhood gathering rather than a resort destination.
Free showers, changing rooms, and restrooms are available at several points along the shore, and a promenade lined with cafes and restaurants runs parallel to the beach. During the summer months, arriving early in the morning makes it much easier to find a comfortable spot before crowds gather.
The mix of small pebbles and coarse sand underfoot creates an unusual sensation when walking barefoot along the water, quite different from the sandy beaches found further east along the coast. Many visitors find this texture surprising on their first walk along the shoreline.
