Nangang station, Railway and metro station in Nangang District, Taipei, Taiwan
Nangang Station is a major transportation hub in Taipei that combines Taiwan High Speed Rail, Taiwan Railways Administration, and Taipei Metro services in one location. The facility features both above-ground and underground sections with multiple ticket machines and passenger services.
The original station was built in 1899 during Japanese colonial administration to support regional industrial growth. The underground platforms were added much later to accommodate increased traffic and development in the surrounding areas.
Artworks by Taiwanese artist Jimmy Liao line the station corridors, exploring themes of technology and memory through paintings. These installations reflect how the station merges contemporary transit needs with artistic expression in its public spaces.
The station operates daily from early morning until midnight and provides baggage storage and free internet access throughout the facility. Multiple ticket machines are positioned at various points to help with passenger flow and service access.
The underground railway platforms were completed in 2008 and specifically designed to serve the expanding software park nearby. This underground expansion simultaneously helped reduce surface traffic congestion in the business district.
