Chang-Gu World Trade Center, Skyscraper in Sanmin District, Taiwan.

The Chang-Gu World Trade Center is a 50-story skyscraper with an octagonal base that rises 222 meters. Inside, a 21-story atrium finished in Spanish granite forms the centerpiece, while twelve elevators and five underground parking levels serve the building's users.

The building opened in 1992 and briefly held the title of Taiwan's tallest structure before being surpassed by the Shin Kong Life Tower six months later. This rapid turnover reflects the intense construction activity and skyline development happening in the city at that time.

The octagonal shape reflects traditional Chinese design principles rooted in the tai chi bagua pattern. You notice how the absence of sharp corners creates a sense of flow throughout the building's form.

The building is easy to navigate thanks to its twelve elevators, and multiple levels provide access to conference and meeting spaces. If you drive, the five underground parking levels offer plenty of space for vehicles.

At the top sits the Grand 50 Club, an entertainment venue operated by the Hong Kong-based Peninsula Group that offers city views from the tower's highest point. Few visitors realize this exclusive space exists above the commercial floors.
