Sanmin District, Administrative district in Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Sanmin District is an administrative area in central Kaohsiung with flat terrain and several residential neighborhoods spread across it. It shares boundaries with Gushan, Yancheng, Ciajjin, Sinsing, and Lingya districts and contains major institutions like universities and a science museum.
The area was established during the Ming dynasty when three farming families named Wang, Tsai, and Cheng settled there, giving it the original name Sankuaicu meaning "Three Houses." This early rural settlement eventually developed into the urban district that exists today.
The district functions as an educational hub where students and researchers move through daily life around the campuses and research centers. This academic presence shapes the local atmosphere and brings young people from across the region.
The area is well-connected through Kaohsiung Train Station, which provides access to high-speed rail, metro, and other transportation services. This central location makes it easy to move between different neighborhoods and reach nearby attractions.
The district is home to a major science museum that occupies a large site and houses one of the region's most extensive collections of scientific exhibits. This institution attracts visitors of all ages interested in science and technology.
