Sunfong Temple, Taoist temple in Sanmin District, Taiwan.
Sunfong Temple is a Taoist temple in Sanmin District featuring architecture based on northern palace design, with three main sections arranged in sequence. The layout includes a front hall, middle hall, and back hall, each serving distinct functions within the overall structure.
The temple was established in 1672 as Sunfong Pavilion before being relocated to its current location on Hebei 2nd Road in 1971. This move allowed the growing community to have a larger and more permanent home for their worship.
The temple serves as a primary worship site where visitors can observe people offering prayers and incense to Zhongtan Yuanshuai and Nazha. Daily rituals and devotional practices are visible throughout the space, reflecting how the community connects with these deities.
The temple opens daily early in the morning and closes in the evening, giving visitors plenty of time to explore during the day. The location on Hebei 2nd Road is accessible and welcomes people to walk through its halls at their own pace.
Artist Pan Lu-Shui painted the door gods using a flat-color technique that gives the temple entrance a distinctive visual character. This artistic approach differs from more conventional methods and creates a memorable impression for those who pass through.
