Yilan Brick Kiln, Historic brick manufacturing site in Yilan City, Taiwan

The Yilan Brick Kiln is an industrial complex in Yilan with several separate kilns connected by exhaust channels that feed into a central pipe system. A distinctive 37-meter chimney rises above the site and was essential for the production process.

The facility was established in 1938 as the Chen He Cheng Kiln Factory, where local clay with high viscosity was processed for brick production. Operations continued until the 1980s as manufacturing declined in the region.

This place reflects how brick-making was central to the region's growth and how local communities valued their industrial heritage enough to protect it. The site shows the skills and routines that workers developed over many decades of production.

The location is within walking distance north of Yilan Station and is easy to find. The tall chimney serves as a good reference point when approaching from a distance.

The local community fought to prevent the facility from being demolished for residential development, which led to its protection as a historic site today. This effort shows how seriously residents valued their industrial past.
