South Gate of Zuoying, Historical city gate in Zuoying District, Taiwan.
The South Gate of Zuoying is a city gate built with granite and traditional architectural features, located at the intersection of Zuoying Road and Gushan 3rd Road. The structure displays the solid stonework and characteristic design details typical of its era.
The gate was built between 1825 and 1826 as part of a stone wall system that represented the most advanced fortification system in Taiwan at that time. This defensive structure marked an important phase in the region's development.
The gate is known locally as Ciwun Gate and forms a key part of the Old City of Zuoying. It shapes how the district looks and feels today, reflecting the architectural style of its founding era.
The gate sits at a central location in Zuoying District and serves as a good landmark for visitors finding their way around. The nearby Zuoying HSR station offers several transportation options for reaching the site.
While the city originally had four gates, this one has survived in its original form. The west gate shows only partial preservation of its walls, making this one of the better preserved examples of Zuoying's defensive structures.
