Chi Ming Palace, Religious temple at Lotus Lake in Zuoying District, Taiwan.
Chi Ming Palace is a three-story temple at Lotus Lake with multiple halls dedicated to different figures in Chinese religious tradition. The structure combines several spaces for worship and veneration under one roof.
The temple's roots go back to 1628 when a Qing magistrate created a space to promote learning and education in the area. Over time, it grew and took on its present form to accommodate various aspects of Chinese worship.
The temple brings together the veneration of Confucius with that of the martial deity Guan Yu, showing how scholarship and valor blend in the daily religious life of visitors. People come here to honor both kinds of virtue that matter in Chinese tradition.
The temple sits right beside the lake and is easily reached on foot from the nearest train station. The walk follows the lake shore, making the visit a pleasant stroll.
The most distinctive staircase in the temple has 366 steps, each corresponding to a day of the year. The steps bear carvings linked to Chinese seasons and the lunar calendar.
