Touliao Mausoleum, Mausoleum in Daxi District, Taoyuan, Taiwan
The Touliao Mausoleum is a tomb in Daxi District, Taoyuan, Taiwan, defined by low structures in dark stone and landscaped greenery. The entire complex covers several acres and includes an artificial lake that mirrors the buildings and contributes to the peaceful setting.
The site was originally built in 1966 as a guesthouse and served that function for over two decades before becoming a resting place in January 1988. Since 2001, the complex has been recognized as a historic building of regional importance.
The name Touliao comes from a small settlement at the forest edge, known for its calm location that now draws visitors from across Taiwan. Many people see this place as a quiet room for reflection, where they walk slowly and observe the garden surroundings.
Visitors can freely explore the grounds on most days and walk on paths around the lake. The site connects via a footpath to nearby Cihu, allowing a longer stroll through the forested surroundings.
A proposal in 2004 considered moving the remains to a military cemetery at Wuzhi Mountain. Political debate about that decision continues today, so the original resting place has remained unchanged.
