Daxi Wude Hall, Japanese colonial martial arts hall in Daxi, Taiwan.
Daxi Wude Hall is a concrete building with a gable roof and Tang dynasty-style eaves on both its front and rear street-facing sections. The two main facades feature arched windows and column details that run through the entire structure.
The building was completed in 1935 during Japanese rule and initially served as a training center for police and youth in martial arts. After 1950 it was converted into a military police barracks.
The building shows how Japanese martial arts traditions met Chinese architectural forms in early 20th-century design. Visitors can see this blend in the decorative elements and structural choices throughout the spaces.
The building is now part of a museum and offers guided tours through its historic spaces. The site is wheelchair accessible and open to visitors most days of the week.
The building is one of the few structures from this period that combines reinforced concrete with traditional eave details. This mix was an experiment of the 1930s to bring together old craft techniques with modern materials.
