Taoyuan Public Library, Public library in Longgang, Taoyuan City, Taiwan.
Taoyuan Public Library is a public library in the Longgang area of Taoyuan, Taiwan, spread across four floors above ground and two levels below. The floors are organized to separate reading areas, study spaces, and rooms for community activities, making it easy to find a spot suited to what you need.
The site was formerly a military district that housed the Army's Sixth Corps Command and several specialized schools during the 20th century. When the military moved out, the land was repurposed and eventually became home to this public library.
The library holds a multilingual collection with publications from Southeast Asia, reflecting the many residents with roots in Yunnan and Myanmar who settled in this part of Taoyuan. Browsing the shelves, visitors can find books in languages rarely seen in other libraries in the region.
The library stays open into the evening on most days of the week, but closes earlier on Sundays and Mondays, so it is worth checking before you go. The building has multiple floors, so taking the elevator is a good option if you want to move between levels without climbing stairs.
The building's facade features 45 window panels shaped like books that open on the sides, a detail that becomes clear as you approach from the street. This gives the exterior a look that sets it apart from a typical public building in the neighborhood.
