Jiguopai Old Church, Stone chapel near Sanmin Bat Cave, Fuxing District, Taiwan
Jiguopai Old Church is a stone building located near the Sanmin Bat Cave in Fuxing District. The structure has a sloping roof built with wooden beams and features a round entrance door that incorporates traditional Chinese design elements.
The building was constructed in 1964 by Presbyterian Church priest Huang Rong-quan working together with Atayal community members. Following a roof collapse in 2000, the structure was rebuilt and later recognized as an important religious site.
The chapel shows how European building styles merged with Atayal traditions in this mountain region. Walking through and around it, visitors notice how the design reflects the exchange between missionary work and local practices.
The chapel sits roughly 400 meters from the Sanmin Bat Cave parking area, making it a short walk from that natural site. Visitors can easily combine a trip here with exploration of the cave to make a half-day outing in the region.
The roof of the chapel completely collapsed in 2000, leading to a full reconstruction from that point. This rebuilding made the site a notable example of restoration and local value recognition.
