Xikou Suspension Bridge, Suspension bridge in Fuxing District, Taiwan
The Xikou Suspension Bridge spans approximately 330 meters across the Dahan River, linking areas of Fuxing District at roughly 23 meters above water. Steel cables and support structures anchor the bridge at both riverbanks.
The original structure built in 1922 connected mountain communities and facilitated the transport of rice and agricultural goods. This early link enabled economic activity across difficult terrain.
The bridge and nearby area reflect influences from the Atayal Indigenous people through design elements and displays. Visitors can find local crafts and traditional foods from the community in this setting.
Access is available on most days with varying hours, and a small entry fee applies. Wear sturdy shoes and bring weather-appropriate clothing, as the bridge can be windy and exposed.
The structure moves slightly beneath visitors' feet, creating a swaying sensation while crossing the river. This flexibility is intentional in the design and makes the crossing a notable physical experience.
