Majia

Majia is an administrative township in Pingtung County with mountainous terrain and river valleys that shape its landscape. The area features rice paddies and fruit orchards where farming is the main livelihood.

The area was originally home to the Paiwan people before modern administration was introduced. Its current boundaries and governance structure took shape through 20th century administrative reforms.

The Paiwan people here maintain traditions that are visible in daily community life and local gatherings. Handmade crafts and weaving techniques remain part of everyday practices in the villages.

The dry season is the best time to explore the area when mountain roads are easier to travel. Visitors should expect winding roads and benefit from local guides who know the villages and farming areas well.

Some Paiwan villages use traditional irrigation systems adapted to the mountainous terrain that have guided farming for generations. These older methods remain visible today in how water flows through the valleys to the fields.
