Jiaruipu Temple, Aboriginal temple in Gaoshu Township, Taiwan
Jiaruipu Temple is a religious center in Pingtung County for the Makatao people, featuring traditional elements of indigenous architecture. Located in the northeast section of Taishan Village, it serves as a gathering space for ceremonies and community events throughout the year.
The temple was originally known as A-mu House, later receiving the name Gongxie through Siraya influence. This shift in naming reflects changing cultural influences that shaped the region over time.
The temple serves as an ancestral hall for the Liou family and a spiritual center where the Makatao community gathers. Indigenous practices continue to shape how people use and experience this space today.
The temple is easily accessible from Taishan Village and remains open to visitors, especially during ceremonial times. It helps to ask locally about events happening there to find the best times to explore.
In 2011, the temple became a gathering point when the Makatao community assembled there to seek official recognition as Plains Aborigines. This event transformed the place into a symbol of indigenous rights and identity in the region.
