Port of Hualien, International port on the Pacific Ocean in Hualien City, Taiwan
The Port of Hualien is a harbor facility on Taiwan's eastern coast with multiple docking areas for different vessels and cargo operations. It was built to handle materials from the region, particularly raw goods like gravel, cement, and marble.
The harbor was constructed between 1930 and 1939 as an artificial basin with breakwaters during the Japanese colonial period. This era shaped the infrastructure and planning that remains in place today.
The port maintains connections with multiple international locations through sister port agreements, including partnerships with Brownsville, Long Beach, and Ishigaki.
The port is located about a short distance from Hualien Railway Station and is also reachable by public buses. Keep in mind that it is an active work zone, so not all areas may be accessible to visitors.
The port handles an annual container volume of 13 million tons, specializing in the transportation of local materials like gravel, cement, and marble.
