Yuli Township, Administrative township in Huatung Valley, Taiwan
Yuli Township spreads across land between two mountain ranges in Hualien County, containing fifteen villages that function as the southern administrative hub of the area. The settlement sits within the Huatung Valley and serves as a key municipal center.
After World War II, when Taiwan reorganized its territorial divisions from the Japanese system to its current form, Yuli Township took its present administrative shape. This restructuring established the modern boundaries and governance that define the area today.
The township brings together Han Chinese and indigenous communities, creating local festivals, varied food traditions, and the everyday presence of both Mandarin and native languages throughout the area.
The township is accessible via the rail station on the Taitung line, with trains from Taipei taking about three hours to arrive. Local buses and bicycle rentals make it easy to move around and explore the different villages and sites.
A bicycle bridge crossing the river has an information area marking where the Eurasian and Philippine tectonic plates meet. This visible geological point lets visitors experience two major continental plates at a single location.
